The Women of C&C

In celebration of International Women’s Day - we are recognising the magnificent women that make up our team by asking them a few questions to get to know them better:

LAURA HART

1. What is your life motto?
Yes, and!

2. Who do you most admire?
My mum - she is a strong, independent woman who raised myself and my sisters whilst killing it in her career (she's basically a bad ass bitch)

3. What is your favourite beverage?
A Minty Lizzy from Gather on the Green cafe in Camperdown (it is lychee and mint and frozen and is the most refreshing thing to ever exist)

4. Who is your favourite actress?
Don't make me pick! Toss up between Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and Miranda Tapsell.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself/or something people may not know about you?
I love tiny houses. I am a tall person. These things don't go together well.

6. What do you love about Casting?
The challenge of finding the right person for each role. Receiving briefs and thinking outside the box. The satisfaction I get from finding talent in unexpected places. Talking to actors in waiting rooms. Seeing a script come to life.

7. In one word what does IWD mean to you?
Progress.

SOPHIE HAWKSHAW
1. What is your life motto?
Work hard, be kind and make a friend.

2. Who do you most admire?
I most admire people who hustle hard without being a dick about it - we’re talking the Taylor Swifts, Greta Gerwigs and Reed Moranos of the world.

3. What is your favourite beverage?
It’s a solid tie between a gin and tonic, and an iced almond latte.

4. Who is your favourite actress?
I’m shamelessly obsessed with Elisabeth Moss, Toni Collette and Rose Byrne.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself/or something people may not know about you
My family and I build hand carved 6 foot high sandcastles on the beach for fun. We take sandcastles very very seriously.

6. What do you love about Casting?
I love so much about it! I especially love getting to work with actors in the room. The electricity when you find the person who is perfect for a role is literally palpable and seeing a project come to life is priceless.

7. In one word what does IWD mean to you?
Power

HANNAH DARKLING

1. What is your life motto?
Live deliberately.

2. Who do you most admire?
I’ve been changing my mind on a lot of celebrity scandals from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Upon reexamining the treatment of people like Britney Spears or Monica Lewinsky in the press, and looking at what actions they were being punished for, I’ve come to admire those women (and many more like them) who have come out the other side and are now living full lives as good mothers and happy people. I admire their resilience and strength in the face of unfair treatment.

3. What is your favourite beverage?
Post-mix coca-cola. Yes, I am secretly a 5 year old.

4. Who is your favourite actress?
Right now it’s a toss up between Sandra Oh and Saoirse Ronan. Ask me again next week and it will be someone different.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself/or something people may not know about you
I am currently learning Auslan.

6. What do you love about Casting?
Taking a character that a writer has created entirely in their head, and finding a real person who can fit that mould is such a challenge. It is exciting to be able to help someone bring an idea to life, and sometimes by knowing what they want more clearly than they do!

7. In one word what does IWD mean to you?
Inclusion.

KARINA BANNO

1. What is your life motto?
I recognise coincidences and remind myself ‘I'm meant to be here’.

2. Who do you most admire?
I’ve really admired Jameela Jamil’s relentless pursuit to normalise body positivity among men and women, and more importantly, social media and the entertainment industry. It genuinely has pulled my mind into line on a daily basis when it so easily can stray to criticising my body and comparing my appearance to that of others.

3. What is your favourite beverage?
Soy Chai Latte. Yummm.

4. Who is your favourite actress?
Emma Stone. Her work, her career, her openness to discuss her anxiety.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself/or something people may not know about you:
I LOVE TRUE CRIME.

6. What do you love about Casting?
That no two people deliver the same lines identically.

7. In one word what does IWD mean to you?
Righteous.

ALISON FOWLER

1. What is your life motto?
I'm YOLOing

2. Who do you most admire?
It's hard to pinpoint an individual person because I'm a lover of too many things and too many people. I really admire the people who start something, make it successful only to constantly diversify into a multi-faceted successful life that simultaneously makes a difference in the world. People like Sarah Wilson, Emma Watson, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Shonda Rhimes...

But ALSO currently my 4 month old daughter, Riley, who forces me to stop and enjoy the simpler things every day. She may not know it, but it's a quality I wish I was stronger in me.

3. What is your favourite beverage?
Margarita // A cracking chardonnay // Kombucha (Lo Bros all the way)

4. Who is your favourite actress?
Julia Roberts, Julie Walters & Yael Stone ... but also Miley Cyrus!!

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself/or something people may not know about you?
I (try to) play the ukulele. I also like to study nutrition in my spare time.

6. What do you love about Casting?
The surprises. Spending time with actors in the studio and being blown away by something new and unexpected.

7. In one word what does IWD mean to you?
Unity

STEPHANIE PRINGLE

1. What is your life motto?
What's the worst that could happen? Nobody's gonna die.

2. Who do you most admire?
Shonda Rhimes - her book was the single most inspiring thing to read as a new mum trying to navigate business and general life. I admire her boss attitude, her work, her ability to create strong female characters and her honesty about how hard it is to juggle mum and work life and find a balance.

3. What is your favourite beverage?
Champagne (preferably the French expensive kind)

4. Who is your favourite actress?
Tilda Swinton, Reese Witherspoon, Abbie Cornish. I have many.

5. Tell us something surprising about yourself/or something people may not know about you:
I LOVE absurdism. Tom Stoppard is my favourite playwright. I have a quote from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead tattooed on the back of my leg. I also have an unhealthy obsession with Frida Kahlo and collecting abstract pottery items from Jones & Co.

6. What do you love about Casting?
I love the process of the initial script read, imagining the characters and then reimagining them with different actors in mind. It's fun to play with different actors in the room and seeing all of the different takes on the character. The most exciting part is knowing you've found 'the one' and putting together the ideal cast ensembles.

I love that the casting process is the first time a director sees the characters come to life on screen.

7. In one word what does IWD mean to you?
Sisterhood
